What an AI photo enhancer fixes, and what it leaves alone

"Enhance" means different things to different people. This AI photo enhancer does one job well: it removes noise and compression damage and recovers fine detail, returning the image at twice the size. It does not relight or recolour the photo.

• Noise from low light

  Indoor and evening phone shots come out speckled because the sensor was pushed. The enhancer smooths the speckle while keeping edges, so skin and walls look clean without turning to plastic.

• Compression from chat apps and screenshots

  Photos sent through messaging apps or saved from social media are recompressed every time, leaving blocky patches and halos around edges. Run the earliest copy you can find; the enhancer cleans what is left.

• Mild softness

  A slightly missed focus or a small, soft image sharpens up noticeably. A badly out-of-focus or motion-blurred shot does not: no photo enhancer can recover detail that was never captured.

• Not a colour or exposure editor

  Brightness, white balance and colour stay as they are. To brighten a dark photo or change its mood, describe the change in Image to Image instead.

• Faces get sharpened, not rebuilt

  Existing pixels are cleaned and upsampled; nothing is generated. If a face is too blurry to read, use Unblur Face first, which redraws facial detail, then enhance the result.

• Upload the original, not a screenshot

  Every re-save adds compression that the engine then has to undo. A screenshot of a photo is two generations of loss away from the file you actually have.

• Fix faces first

  Enhancement is even-handed across the frame. If the problem is specifically a face, deal with that before cleaning up the rest. Unblur Face
