What 2× actually looks like
A whole-image slider cannot show an upscale: both halves get scaled to the same width on screen, so they look identical. This is a 100% crop of the same patch — the left comes from a 448 × 327 source, the right from the 896 × 654 output.

Will Image Upscaler work on your photo?
Match what is wrong with your image to what this tool can realistically do. Where it cannot help, the row says which tool can.
A small photo you need bigger
Good matchThe core case. Our sample went from 448 × 327 to 896 × 654 with the crust texture and flour on the loaf holding up instead of smearing.
Line art, anime, screenshots
Good matchEdges and lettering keep their definition rather than turning into gradients, which is what plain resizing does.
Already large and sharp
Partial improvementYou will get a file at twice the dimensions, but there is little latent detail to recover. Run it only when you actually need the pixel count.
You need more than 2×
Partial improvementUpload the output and run it again. Two passes give four times the original for four credits.
A blurry face

How to upscale an image to 4K (and when you don't need to)
Every run here is a true 2× in width and height, so getting to a target size is simple arithmetic. Work out how many passes you need before you upscale an image, and don't enlarge what is already big enough.
Upscale image to 4K
4K is 3840 × 2160. An image at least 1920 pixels wide reaches 4K width in one pass; one at least 960 pixels wide needs two. Smaller than that and even two passes fall short, so look for a larger original first.
Upscale image for print
Print needs about 300 pixels per inch for a sharp result. A 1,000-pixel image prints well at roughly 3 inches; one pass doubles that to about 7 inches, two passes to about 13. Posters viewed from a distance get away with less.
Upscaling vs. resizing in an editor
Resizing in a photo editor stretches the existing pixels, so edges blur and text turns into gradients. The upscaler predicts the missing detail instead, which is why lines, lettering and hair stay crisp at the larger size.
When not to upscale
Most recent phone photos are already 4,000 pixels or more across; upscaling them adds file size, not detail. The tool earns its keep on small web images, old digital photos, thumbnails, screenshots and AI images generated at 1K.
Fix first, upscale last
Blur, noise and damage are enlarged along with everything else. Restore or unblur first, then upscale the image as the final step.
Why Image Upscaler on AI Image Tools
A real 2×, stated plainly
The engine doubles width and height. We do not advertise 4× or 8× buttons that quietly deliver less.
Edges stay crisp
Lines, lettering and hair keep their definition instead of turning into blur, which is what plain resizing does.
Fast enough for a whole folder
Two to three seconds per image at two credits each, so a batch of product shots costs less than a coffee.
Run it twice for 4×
Need more? Upload the result again. Two passes give you four times the original size for four credits.

How to use Image Upscaler
- Step 1
Upload the image
Photos, renders, illustrations and screenshots all work. Keep the source under 10 MB.

Download, or go again
Download the WebP, or upload the result for another 2× pass.
Get a better result
A few choices before you upload change the output more than any setting on this page.
Start from the original file
Enlarging a screenshot enlarges its compression blocks along with everything else. Find the earliest copy first.
Repair before you enlarge
Damage, blur and noise all get bigger too. Put the fix first and the upscale last. Photo Restoration
Two passes for four times
There is no 4× button because the engine does a real 2×. Running the result again is the honest way to get there, and it costs four credits.

Image Upscaler: frequently asked questions
Can I upscale more than 2×?
Yes, by running the output again. Each pass is 2× and costs two credits.
Can I upscale images for free?
Each pass costs 2 credits, so the 10 credits you get at sign-in cover 5 upscales. Upscaler results are not watermarked, on the free plan too.
Photos or illustrations?
Both. Line art and anime keep clean edges; photos keep grain rather than turning waxy.
What is the largest input?
10 MB per file. Very large sources are already big; the tool is most useful on images under about 2000 pixels on the long side.
Why WebP?
It is what the engine returns and it keeps 4K-sized outputs small. Convert to PNG or JPG if you need those specifically.
What happens if a generation fails?
You are only charged when an image comes back. If the model fails or times out, nothing is deducted and you can simply run it again.
What happens to my photos?
Your upload is sent to the model provider only to produce the result. The result is stored in your My Creations gallery on our own storage, and you can delete it there at any time.
Twice the pixels, none of the blur
Upload at the top of the page. The first run is covered by your free credits.
