Name the one thing you want changed and say what should stay. "Make it winter" is vague. "Make it winter — snow on the ground and rooftops, bare trees, keep the building and the people exactly as they are" tells the model what not to touch, which matters more than what to change.
If there is no photo yet, describe the picture in Text to Image. For a fixed-purpose edit such as removing a background or restoring an old photo, the dedicated tools on the tools page need no prompt at all. The Nano Banana page preselects Google's model for edits.
